The Benefits of Hydro Jetting for Drain Cleaning

|

What Is Hydro Jetting a Drain?

Hydro jetting is a highly effective method of clearing blocked drains and sewer lines by using high-pressure water to remove stubborn blockages. A blocked drain is often composed of various materials such as hair, grease, soap scum, food particles, and other debris.

Over time, these materials accumulate and solidify, leading to reduced water flow and eventually a complete blockage. Traditional methods like plunging or snaking may not be sufficient to deal with such stubborn clogs, especially when they are deep within the pipes.

This is where hydro jetting comes in as an effective solution. Hydro jetting equipment typically consists of a high-pressure hose, specialized nozzles, and a machine that pressurizes water up to 4,000 psi (pounds per square inch). This powerful stream of water has the ability to dislodge and break apart even the most hardened clogs.

The process of hydro jetting begins with an inspection of the affected pipe using a video camera to determine the location and severity of the blockage. Once the blockage is identified, a suitable nozzle is selected based on the type of clog and the pipe's condition. There are various types of nozzles designed for different purposes, such as:

  • Penetrating nozzles. These are used for breaking through solid blockages, like tree roots or heavy mineral deposits.

  • Flushing nozzles. These are designed to flush out loose debris and wash the pipe walls clean.

  • Rotating nozzles. These have spinning jets that provide a 360-degree cleaning action, effectively removing grease and sludge build-up.

The high-pressure hose is then inserted into the pipe, and the machine is turned on. The force of the water pushes the hose through the pipe, and the nozzle's jets work to break apart and flush away the blockage. The process continues until the entire pipe is clean and free of obstructions.

What Are the Benefits of Hydro Jetting for Drain Cleaning?

Here are some of the primary benefits of hydro jetting we discuss with clients daily:

  • Hydro jetting is affordable. This method of drain cleaning is often more cost-effective than traditional drain cleaning methods. You can save money on upfront costs as well as on future drainage issues (as hydro jetting can help with maintenance).

  • Hydro jetting is good for the environment. This process does not involve the use of chemicals or toxic substances in the water, and nearby water (i.e. lakes, groundwater, rivers, soil, etc.) will not get contaminated.

  • Hydro jetting is versatile. Hydro jetting for drain cleaning can work for a variety of cleanout projects at residential or commercial properties, including root removal and declogging jobs.

  • Hydro jetting is cleaner. By hydro jetting, you reduce the amount of sewage and sewer lines you may come into contact with during the process.

  • Hydro jetting is very thorough. Hydro jetting provides a comprehensive cleaning of your pipes, removing even the smallest residue from the interior walls. This level of cleanliness is difficult to achieve with other methods.
